Karnataka Kalashree, Sangeetha Kala Rathna - Vidwan A.V Anand
Born on 16th April 1936 to Sri A.Venkobachar and Smt. Nagamma, Anand displayed prodigious intuition for percussion when he was just four years old.
He has the distinction of having provided Mrudangam accompaniment to stalwarts of Carnatic Music, Vidwan Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar, Vidwan Flute T.R. Mahalingam, Sangeetha Kalanidhi Padma Vibhushan Shemmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, Sangeetha Kalanidhi Padma Bhushan Dr. V.Doreswamy Iyengar and many more. He is an ‘A TOP’ grade artist of All India Radio (AIR).
He has composed, directed and presented many percussion ensembles in music festivals and conferences
Other titles conferred to him are ‘Mrudanga Kala Shiromani’, ‘ K.Puttu Rao Memorial Palghat Mani award‘, ‘Laya Kalaa Nipuna’, ‘Srikanta Shankara’ and many more.

Born in a family of musicians, he got introduced to music at a very early age of 10. Initially trained in vocal music under his mother Late T Vaidehi, he secured a Master’s Degree with First rank and won the Gold medal from the Bangalore University
An approved artiste of AIR and has served in Kendriya Vidyalaya for 20 years. Has performed at many eminent organisations like Bangalore Gayana Samaja, Krishna Sangeetha Sabha, Gana Kala Parishat, Percussive Art Centre, ISKCON, Tirumala TTD, and many other places like Chennai, Bombay, Bhopal, Delhi, etc.
